Getting into the habit of wearing sneakers in the city is probably the best decision I’ve ever made. Wearing functional shoes makes it so much easier to go about your day, hurrying up and down the stairs to the subway or walking ten extra blocks in order to cross 5th Ave during the Puerto Rican Day Parade (see: my nightmare). I’ve had the same pair of tri-colored Nike trainers since the 9th grade and they are finally beginning to show some major wear and tear (i.e. a small hole developing above my toe). I’m officially in the market for a new pair of shoes and I believe this pair from J.Crew may be the front runner.
Regardless of your preferred brand, be it Nike or New Balance, having a pair of functional, yet cute and colorful sneakers is a must for living in or visiting the city. The best part is that they are much easier to style than one would imagine. Here are some ideas:
The maxi dress-denim jacket-tote bag-sneakers combination has been my go-to look this summer. It’s light, comfortable, and perfect for long days.
Maxi Dress: H&M | Jacket: J.Crew | Pearls: J.Crew | Sunglasses: J.Crew | Bag: Longchamp
Throw together an androgynous look by pairing slouchy shorts and a blazer with delicate pieces like this silk camisole and pearl ear cuffs.
Blazer: Joie | Shorts: Rag & Bone | Camisole: Malene Birger | Earrings: Bauble Bar | Sunglasses: Thierry Lasry | Bag: Kate Spade
When it’s just too hot to bother, put on your favorite jeans, a comfortable blouse and a stack of bracelets for an effortless look.
Jeans: J Brand | Blouse: Joie | Bracelets: Kiel James Patrick & Rebecca Minkoff | Backpack: Tory Burch
I hope everyone is enjoying the summer thus far!
