I think we’ve all been dreaming of Dubai in recent years. Whether it’s the man-made palm island or the incredible architecture (or perhaps the indoor skiing…), it feels as though I see something fabulous coming from Dubai on a weekly basis. So, it wasn’t surprising to see that the Chanel Cruise 2015 collection was inspired by the emirate. I have to admit that it’s been awhile since I’ve really loved a Chanel collection (maybe even since Paris-Moscou). The Fall 2014 collection was, in my opinion, horrifying (save for the cool supermarket atmosphere). But the Dubai show was great. It actually felt like Chanel. I even see aesthetic inspiration from Coco herself (um, hello?) Watching the show, one can imagine oneself doing something fantastically ostentatious like frolicking through the desert draped in jewels, eating shawarma, and wrapping gold-lacquered fingernails around a cocktail glass. Also, it kind of reminded me of Anna Dello Russo’s crazy H&M collection. Crocodile sunglasses, anyone? Without further ado, here’s a smorgasbord of inspiration I drew from the Dubai collection.
